Mr. T is the gourmet cook in our family. I'm like a line cook. I do the everyday stuff: tacos, frozen chicken nuggets, and sandwiches like the one my mom used make called Cheese, L, Ts (fried provolone, lettuce and tomato). When Mr. T gets in the kitchen we have things made from an actual a recipe.
One evening a couple of years ago, I was fending for myself for dinner. Mr. T went out with friends or had to work late or something -- I can't remember. Anyway, we didn't really have anything in the pantry and I didn't feel like getting in the car to go grocery shopping or to fast food.
We had dried fettuccine noodles. Mmm. Fettuccine sounded good. I don't know how to make fettuccine and all we had in the fridge was some shredded Parmesan cheese and some milk. Basic creamy sauce for noodles, right?
I decided to make my fettuccine sauce in the microwave. I heated the milk and added the cheese, but the cheese didn't melt. I stirred vigorously. Then I put it back in the microwave for a few more seconds. I stirred some more. I think I even added some cornstarch to try to thicken it up.
I was in the middle of my culinary creation when Mr. T came home and found me whisking milk with slightly melted Parmesan in a ramekin. We called it Milk-Cheese Pasta.
And I haven't lived it down to this day.

If you had some cream cheese to throw in it would have been smashing. You did well for what you had in the refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteI'm not very cook at creating dishes from various ingredients either!
ReplyDeleteIt was only a little while ago that I figured out alfredo sauce is basically just milk, butter and flour. Who knew?
Hey you! Didya get the books I left? I'd landed a copy of the fun one at our booksale and LOVE it! It's so awesome:) I knew you just needed a copy, lol. Don't know how thrilling the other is, so feel free to donate it if it sucks.
