A Blogging Lovefest

Recently, there have been some articles about quitting blogging on Seattle Mom Blogs. For some, it has become too much -- it's taking over. In my mind I'm picturing little alien-looking letters and words launching an attack on bloggers' brains.

This hasn't happened to me...yet. But, I can understand how it happens. I'm still in the blogging honeymoon stage, so I thought I would write about why I like blogging and how it has actually helped me in my life.

I started this blog when I was six months pregnant. I was an emotional mess and I needed an outlet. And, now that I'm in the new-mommy trenches, it continues to be a refuge for me. Sanity Department is a transparent diary. Anyone can read it; I can't keep it locked and on the back of the top shelf in my closet. My husband, Mr. T, reads it. Even though it's out there for anyone to see, I feel like I'm more honest here than I ever was with a pencil and paper. Why is that?

Once I got started blogging, I discovered some of my real-life friends are bloggers, too. The blog has been a great way to keep in touch with them, and even to get to know them better. I've also made new friends. I check their blogs on a regular basis to see what they're up to and share similar experiences by leaving comments on their pages. It's fun and it feels nice to know I'm not alone.

An unexpected result of this blog has been that I take more pictures. Even better, is that I take pictures of things that I may not have otherwise -- like T Junior and his big fluffy puppy. These things are great memories and had I not blogged about them, I may not have captured them on film...uh, I mean digital files.

Those are the main reasons for why I love blogging. Why do you blog?

  1. agreed! i never thought i would admit that blogging was a 'hobby'. but in actuallity, it's one thing my kids can't get into, mess up, undo, or make a mess with! i love to write. i miss college and the daily opportunity to express myself in writing. now i can just write whatever i want. so i do.

  2. ugh... why am I not blogging? That's an even better question. I might have overdosed and am now experiencing an aversion, similar to my aversion to Southern Comfort, developed when I was 15. I still love reading your blog though. :)

  3. Rachel - that's a good point about blogging being one thing the kids can't get into. I love to write, too!
Renae - I was wondering why I hadn't seen any updates in a while. :)

  4. Funny how Southern Comfort can do that to you. :) I have such an aversion to that stuff, that just typing the words makes me dry heave.

Ker used to drink the stuff straight, on the rocks.

    *shudder*
